Ideally, I want to find a way that provides the kind of sureness that Wittgenstein alludes to but also allows for me to continue to ask philosophical questions. Wittgenstein tries to make us stop asking these questions, but Cavell tells us why we must take them seriously.
Hence, Cavell shows that there is a genuine truth to be found at the root of skeptical questions. I realize that this is a contentious claim and I am only putting it forward as a acjnowledging, for I cannot otherwise understand why he cavell not have this sense of despair. However, he has merely provided a way of acting in the world, he has not given me certainty.
Cynical Self-Doubt and the Grounds of Sympathy
