But I laughed out loud often, I teared up a bit in a spot or two, and I ended the book glad to have read it but wishing the ending were more resolved instead of next-book set-up.
The job turns out to be a lot more difficult than either she or her employers, the vampire council, expected. Both sides lose key people but obviously, the ones on Jane’s side are the devastating ones. In fact, there were so many other things happening in the first half of the story that I was sure Faith Hunter skinwakker saving it for the next book.

I do enjoy reading authors take on the whole vampire canon, where they expand on it, and write their own rules and conventions for their novel’s universe. The thought of it being all over Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account. Once you made a character unlikable, you can’t just flip a switch and say “ta daaa! A Million More Pages: There’s a lot about herself she doesn’t know though some of those mysteries will be revealed in the course of this book ; she remembers nothing before she stumbled out of the Appalachian wilderness some 18 years ago, at an age the authorities guessed to be about twelve, an apparently feral child.
I was too wrapped up in what was happening now. Loved it, mixture of emotions, love, hate, rage, warmth, and my favorite I’ll give her this: Jane’s relationship with best-friend Molly and Molly’s daughter, for instance.

If readers like this first book, then there are nine more waiting in the wings. I loved Beast and her violent and simple way skinwallker thinking and doing things. Now that he is no longer in play, I find myself oddly unconcerned with whether or not there’ll be more books. She plays Jane with a touch of Southern without it being overdone. I do like the whole vampire society and politics aspect, and it was well-done here.

Moving on to the characters. Getting to know Jane was half the fun of the book, she is different, smart and has a believable personality.
Now, part of the spoilery stuff she’s dealing with is amnesia about the first 12 or so years of her life. Thank goodness this wasn’t the end. The team makes plans and figures things out without her direction.

Faith Hunter has a proven knack for immersing the reader in the Yellowrock world, so a sense of “being there” is one of her great taith as a writer. This story kept my huter from beginning to end. We all have our favorites and not-so-favorites. They may be part of the larger pack that Jane destroyed in the skinwalkef Mercy Blade.
Even Anita Blake’s lack-of-plot books have more plot than this book did. As you can tell from my description of Jane, the main draw for me while reading Skinwalker was the main character but the other characters were just as interesting.

Throw Beast into the mix, and you’ve got “one” awesome main character. She wants a strong, emotional connection but knows it won’t work with him so she settles on Rick.
A new character, another skinwalker is added to the mix. In this novel she literally stumbles upon the bad guy near the end after being pointed in the right direction for the nth time.
